Carly Pearce and Ashley McBryde Never Wanted To Be That Girl is #1 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart, followed by ACC. Girl was a two-week #1 in Canada on March 19th and 26th.

Never Wanted to Be That Girl is Carly’s third and Ashley’s first Billboard Country Airplay #1.

Never Wanted To Be That Girl was written by Carly, Ashley and Shane McAnally. It’s the second single from Pearce’s third album, 29: Written in Stone.

“When Ashley McBryde and I were writing Never Wanted To Be That Girl with Shane McAnally, we were just in the moment, thinking about the women we want to be and the way that’s not always how life and love turn out. But nobody ever paused long enough to think about having a #1 record or winning an Academy of Country Music Award.

We wanted to shake off an honest mistake, and now here we are with the #1 song at Country radio and the ACM trophy for Music Event of the Year. Sometimes out of something bad comes something good.

Never Wanted To Be That Girl is the third duet between two solo women to top the Billboard Country Airplay chart. The first belonged to Reba McEntire and Linda Davis, Does He Love You, in November 1993.

The most recent was April 16, 2022, Elle King and Miranda Lambert’s Drunk (And I Don’t Wanna Go Home).
