Elvie Shane My Boy #1 on ACC with Kix Brooks

Kix Brooks and American Country Countdown is on CISN Country 103.9 Edmonton and Country 105 Calgary Saturday’s 8 am to Noon.

Elvie Shane My Boy is #1 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart, followed by ACC.

Elvie Shane’s life inspired My Boy. When Elvie met his wife Mandy 10 years ago, she told him about her 5-year-old Boy. A year later, they married, and he became a stepdad. The song was inspired by this personal story and written about his experiences being a stepdad.

“We’ve been told for five years that this song was a #1. I always found it hard to believe that I could be part of something like that. Looks like country fans and country radio just said, Believe it! This song was originally written from my perspective as a stepfather. I feel so blessed knowing it is now so many other families’ song as well. A big thank you to my boy for the inspiration.”

My Boy first went viral on Facebook, leading Elvie to his major label deal with BBR Music Group’s Wheelhouse Records in 2019.

Last year, the song was revived via TikTok, thanks to users who began including the tune in videos celebrating the relationship between stepparents and stepchildren.

It was then sent out to country radio and made its way up the charts to the #1 spot on the Country Airplay chart.

“Thank you, Country Radio. Thank you to the fans. Thank you to my whole entire team. Thank you to my amazing co-writers, producer, engineers, and musicians on this record. To my family, especially My Boy you’re the reason any of this is possible. I love you all!! Let’s go!!!!”

Elvie Shane wrote My Boy with Lee Starr, Nick Columbia and Russell Sutton.

My Boy is on Elvie’s debut LP Backslider dropping October 29, 2021.

“It’s about more than just me. Whether you’re from the United States or the other side of the world, we’ve probably experienced the same things: Heartbreak, family trouble, love the yearning for a better life. These songs are my personal stories written so they rhyme but I think they are stories that happen to each and every one of us.”

“I was worried about putting it out at first because it shows the best side of me, which isn’t a great representation of who I am all the way around. I wanted people to maybe know the other side of me first, the rowdier side. But when it started connecting, I realized it is such a part of who I am. Even though I do make mistakes and do dumb stuff sometimes, or maybe a little rough around the edges, at my core there is a lot of love that I was taught in my family.”

“A little story behind the song. Five years ago I was sitting on the back deck of our house up in Hendersonville, Tennessee with some friends, Russell Sutton, Nick Columbia, Lee Star. I had just been sent a post on Facebook that said, I don’t have a stepson, I have a son that was born before I met him. Man, that resonated with me. There was a message there and I wanted to get it out. Nick Columbia said Well tell me about your stepson. I said Man, he’s MY BOY and the rest is history.”

My Boy hits #1 one week after Elvie was honored by his hometown of Caneyville, Kentucky. October 11, 2021, was named Elvie Shane Day. After receiving the city’s key, the hometown star played a free acoustic concert for the crowd.

“I read a quote by Walt Disney the day I signed with my record label that said Whatever we accomplish belongs to our entire group, a tribute to our combined effort. That still rings true today. I’m so thankful that group has grown to include country music radio. For such a personal debut song like My Boy to go number one means the world to me and my family. Huge thank you to all my champions out there.”

Elvie Shane and his wife Mandi welcomed their first baby together, daughter Zaelyn Journey Payton, at 2:21 pm on Tuesday, July 20, in Somerset, Kentucky. Zaelyn weighed 8 lbs., 1 oz., and measured 19.5 inches long. Elvie is also dad to his teenaged stepson with Mandi.

“A while back, my mom called me to tell me she had a dream that God told her I was going to have a baby girl. I didn’t think much of it until we decided on the name Zaelyn and looked it up. Lo and behold, it means a ‘gift of God.”
