Lady A were guest artists on NBC’s Songland in April of 2020. Songwriters competed to have a song recorded by the band. They picked I’ll Drink To That, written by Canadian singer-songwriter Madeline Merlo. The song was rewritten and retitled Champagne Night.

Madeline Merlo is from Maple Ridge, British Columbia. Merlo was named the Canadian Country Music Association’s Rising Star in 2015, and she’s had seven top twenty singles on Canadian country radio. Madeline signed with Open Road Recordings, a Universal Music Group Canada division, and co-starred in the 2016 movie Country Crush with Jana Kramer and Sophie Tweed-Simmons.

Champagne Night comes from Lady A’s Deluxe Edition of their LP Ocean.
I’ll Drink To That was written by Madeline with Canadian Country music legend Patricia Conroy, Tina Parol, and David Thomson. When the song was rewritten and retitled, Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley, Dave Haywood, Shane McAnally, Ryan Tedder and Ester Dean were added as co-writers.
