Brantley Gilbert and Lindsay Ell What Happens In A Small Town #1 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart followed by American Country Countdown.
What Happens In A Small Town is Brantley’s fifth and Lindsay’s first Billboard Country Airplay #1 song.
Town was written by Gilbert along with Brock Berryhill, Josh Dunne and Rhett Akins. It’s the first single from Brantley’s LP Fire & Brimstone.
“I want to give the fans a lot of credit for the life of this song. From the beginning, they shared it, streamed it and called up radio to hear it. I’ve been there drivin’ around home seeing all the people and places that I used to avoid to keep from thinkin’ about the one that got away. I think we all have that person, those people, those places and this song.”
“I have dreamed of having my first #1 since I was a little girl. It honestly feels surreal, and to be able to celebrate it during CMA Awards week in Nashville makes it even more special. I’m honored Brantley, Scott Borchetta and Jon Loba asked me to be a part of this song. From the minute I heard What Happens in a Small Town for the first time I knew it was a hit that would connect with people, and now it’s changing my life as an artist. I’m beyond grateful.”
Brantley Gilbert wanted the song to be a duet with a female artist.
He asked the president of his label Scott Borchetta for recommendations. Scott suggested Lindsay Ell.
“Partnering with her on this song has been absolutely amazing. Seeing how hard she works, and right now is hard times for women in our genre, frankly. I love to see awesome things happening for any female in our genre, but especially Lindsay. Being as close as I’ve been able to be with her and seeing how hard she grinds just makes it that much more special. I think I’m probably more excited for her, well, definitely, than I am for me.”
“I couldn’t be more proud of this #1. I’m especially excited for Lindsay, it being her first, and I hope I can speak for us both when I say that we couldn’t have done it without our amazing fans, our incredible teams and, of course, country radio.”
The 53rd annual CMA awards took place Wednesday Nov 13th in Nashville hosted by Carrie Underwood, Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton.
Brantley Gilbert and Lindsay Ell both looked great on the red carpet.
