In just three years, Brett Young has gone from being a newly signed artist to becoming a platinum-selling act. His record label BMLG Records celebrated Young’s platinum achievements by throwing him a massive pool party at the location where he signed with the company three years ago.
“Mercy is the last song we recorded for the album and I always knew it was something special.” “Sean and I wrote it from such a raw place and I hoped it would connect with fans in the way that it has. I’m proud of all of my songs, but this one digs deep and I think that it’s the perfect last single before album two.”
Mercy came to Young towards the end of the album recording process. While working on his self-titled debut, Brett had 11 songs picked. When he learned he needed a 12th, it was Mercy that made it on the LP. “That song made it on in the 11th hour. We were gonna stop with 11 songs and then we found out iTunes needed us to have 12 and I went, Well, I know which one it’s gonna be.”

@BrettYoungMusic is proving to be a crucial mix of singer and songwriter as he continues to set himself apart with “Mercy.” Tackling the lead spot for a second week atop the @Billboard Country Airplay chart, the @ACMawards New Male Vocalist of the Year has now also become the only current debut Country artist to score four chart-toppers on the Mediabase Country Chart. #Mercy 🎶☝️
Young’s next single, Here Tonight debuts in September as the first song from his second LP expected later this year.
Young, who recently posted a throwback picture with Carrie Underwood, was also asked if there are any other musicians he met years ago that are now stars. “The only other one I randomly met kind of around the same time frame, maybe a year or two later than that, is my idol,” he explained. “I randomly ran into Gavin DeGraw at Mel’s Diner on Sunset back in probably like 2006/2007. We were fast friends. We’ve stayed buddies ever since and just recently got to do a collaboration together.”
Brett was engaged in February 2018 to longtime Girlfriend Taylor Mills.
“We met 10 years ago, so she was around for the beginning,” Young explained backstage at CMA Fest 2018. “She was in all the little beach bars, and at our terrible gigs; she’s seen every side of this business. “I think number-ones are never going to get old.” “They’re always one of the most exciting things in this business, but if I didn’t have her to share it with, it wouldn’t mean anything.” Brett and Taylor are tying the knot in November 2018.
Brett Young played fairs and festivals this summer, and will hit the road this fall to serve as the opening act on Thomas Rhett’s Life Changes Tour. Canadian fans saw Brett August 12th at the Boots and Hearts Music Festival Burl’s Creek Event Grounds Oro-Medonte Ontario. Young will headline a sold out Ryman Auditorium show for the first time October 10th. Find a list of all of his upcoming shows at BrettYoungMusic.com.
