You may have heard it this morning with Chris, Jack and Matt or maybe you saw it all over your social media today…the “lady doritos” that were apparently announced by PepsiCO.
Annnyways as you can see, people were pretty fired up about this, but before getting mad it seems like everyone forgot to fact check the story.
Yeah it’s not happening at all.
Here’s the official statement released by PepsiCO last night after the internet collectively lost their minds
“The reporting on a specific Doritos product for female consumers is inaccurate. We already have Doritos for women — they’re called Doritos, and they’re enjoyed by millions of people every day. At the same time, we know needs and preferences continue to evolve, and we’re always looking for new ways to engage and delight our consumers.”
So how did this whole crazy thing get started? Well PepsiCo. CEO Indra Nooyi was on a podcast and was asked how men and women eat chips differently. Her response is what started this entire storm
“A lot of the young guys eat the chips, they love their Doritos, and they lick their fingers with great glee, and when they reach the bottom of the bag they pour the little broken pieces into their mouth,” noting that “women would love to do the same, but they don’t. It’s not a male and female as much as ‘are there snacks for women that can be designed and packaged differently?’ And yes, we are looking at it, and we’re getting ready to launch a bunch of them soon.” You can read more of what she said in the podcast here
So with THAT out of the way, we can relax for a bit and wait for more fake news to rile us up.
